The Weights and The Woman

As you all have probably noticed by now, I am a BIG fan of weight training. It has worked wonders for my body, and not just mine, but thousands of others. It has been much more effective than doing 45 minutes of steady state cardio followed by 20 minutes of abs. I didn’t always think this way. A good friend once told me I could burn much more fat by weight lifting as opposed to strictly cardio. It only took me 5 years to finally agree with him. I thought how on Earth could you burn fat without cardio, and plus if I lifted weights I would get big. NOT TRUE. I have lost more weights in a shorter amount of time by lifting weights, and the bonus, I actually like the way I look with a little muscle on my body. I no longer feel frail and weak, but instead, strong and confident. I am not saying you need to squat 300 pounds and curl 45 pound dumbbells, but adding weight training will make amazing changes to your body. It not only makes aesthetic changes, but internal changes, such as how you feel about yourself and your confidence. I can honestly say, weight training has changed my life.

I found this great article dispelling some common myths about women and weight training on bodybuilding.com, make sure to check it out! http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/5-training-facts-for-women.htm.

There are so many gimmicks, pills and special diets out there, promising to make you lose a bunch of weight and make you look great in a short period of time. What they don’t tell you, is how unhealthy they products are and also rapid weight loss if hard on your body. It is actually very simple to lose weight and be healthy. All it takes is a clean diet and some exercise. I know some of you say “that’s easier said than done”. Of course it is harder when the weight loss is completely up to you and not a pill, but you will feel like you have accomplished something much greater in the end, if you achieved it all on your own without the help of some diet fad. So clean out those cupboards and stop spending hours doing steady state cardio and pick up some free weights and some clean eats and you will be well on your way to a sexy lean body!

Some of you may know what is coming next haha, but since this program helped me shape who I am today (literally ;)), I want to once again take this time to share with you something that can get your started, the Jamie Eason Livefit Trainer. It guides you through 3 months of weight training and eating. It contains everything you need to get in great shape and get your eating right on track. If you have been humming and hawing about starting, now is your chance! If you don’t want to do it on your own, enlist a training partner! The internet can be full of great and free resources for finding weight training routines.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and remember just because IT IS the weekend doesn’t give you the right to derail ;). I also apologize for taking so long into between posts, life can get hectic at times and time needs to be focused elsewhere, but I hope you enjoy the post and ANY feedback is welcomed. If any of you out there have a workout you would like to share, may it be weight training, crossfit or cardio related please, please, please share in the comments!

Excellent article! I too was very hard to convince about weight training. I have seen results sooo much quicker with using weights than anything I’ve tried over the last 5 years. The Jamie eason program isolates each group per day which makes it much easier to continue because as one part of your body is so sore you can’t move you can work a different group..and so on. You get stronger nudged faster this way!!
