YOU VS. THE SCALE


So you have been working your butt off, literally, doing squats, lunges, and bicep curls coming out your ying-ying and the scale isn’t moving. You think, “why on Earth am I putting this much effort in, and am not seeing anything in return from my scale”. Even though the scale can be a good tool to track weight loss, it can be the enemy as well. It is incredibly hard to get over the mind-set that gaining weight is bad and losing weight is good, which don’t get me wrong, it absolutely can be. But if you have incorporated some form of weight training into your life, I find it best to take a “photo inventory” of my body. This allows me to see things I might not be able see standing right in front of me! I also use, the way my clothes fit me, and also how I feel internally (mind, body & soul). Now muscle doesn’t weigh less than fat, a pound is a pound is a pound, but muscle is more dense than fat, taking up less space in your body, allowing two people with the same height and weight to have very different body fat percentages. So in turn, if you have begun weight-training of some kind, DO NOT get discouraged if the scale does slightly go up.

I found while first incorporating weight-training into my life I did lose about 10 pounds, but after about 3 months I gained 5 pounds back (and it wasn’t fat). It was a little discouraging after losing ten pounds, to see the scale go back up again. At first I was wondering what the heck I was doing wrong, but after a lot of reading and researching, I found out that it was totally normal and it was actually a good thing, as I had worked and continue to work so hard for my muscle.

No, the picture below isn’t of me, but it goes to shows you that the number on the scale isn’t one you should live by if you are training hard, and incorporating weights (dumbbell OR body weight).

Okey Dokey, I am sooo excited to share a dessert recipe with you! Although I did enjoy sharing smoothie recipes, my true passion lies with snack/treat/dessert recipes, or whatever you want to call them! Even though it is Friday, don’t use it as an excuse to skip your workout! Here is a workout you can do anywhere, anytime. You can do it with no weight or if you do have weight available, challenge yourself!

10 walking-lunges

10 push-ups
