Good Snowy Afternoon!
Yes I said “snowy”, I think we have gotten more snow in the last 3 days then we did all winter! I was really enjoying the sunshine and grass, but I must admit, it looks pretty.
Here is a picture of my backyard. Just 3 days ago my yard was bare, but on the bright side, the snow is supposed to stop by tomorrow and be sunny on Monday!
So what am I doing on a snowy Saturday? Well usually I work Saturday’s, but I ended up with the weekend off (not that I’m complaining ;)), so I am sitting here drinking a cup of coffee! Yes I said it, I am drinking coffee. I never thought there would come a day I would say those words. So now that I have admitted my new habit, one I don’t think interferes with my health. From what I have read, it can be good for you in small amounts. There seems to be copious amounts of information out there for and against coffee, so I will just choose to drink it, well because I want to (some days I need too!).
Now I will admit the reason I started drinking coffee. Since starting Crossfit just over a month ago, and having our sessions start at 7 a.m. in Grande Prairie (25 minute drive) I have to wake up at 5:45 and out the door at 6:15. Sooooo after my first couple of sessions, I realized no matter how much sleep I got, I was still a bit dozy at 7. This is when I formed my new habit, in which my husband aided me ;). I also think it helps me perform better, since it gives me more energy. Now before our morning workouts we enjoy a cup of Joe together, black of course (I add a bit of almond milk to mine)! I find this a healthier and more natural alternative to taking a pre-workout energy supplement. Of course I am not recommending or suggesting anything one way or the other, just sharing what worked for me! Everybody is different, that’s what makes us special!
I do not drink coffee everyday, and it will not replace the green tea I drink. If I do have a cup of coffee, I will skip my green tea that has caffeine, and just drink decaffeinated green tea instead. I drink about 3 cups of green tea a day, and only one of those cups are caffeinated green tea (if I don’t consume any coffee). When I drink caffeinated drinks, I make sure to drink more water, to rehydrate my body.
This week Crossfit proved to challenge me once again, and that’s what I love so much about it. We did a little workout called “Death by Pull-ups”, which entails using a continuously running clock and doing one pull-up the first minute, 2 pull-ups the second minute, 3 pull-ups the third minute and continuing until you can no longer complete the next level of pull ups. And just when you thought you were done when you couldn’t complete anymore pull-ups, you go directly into 100 box jumps. I completed 9 pull-ups using a green band (this band assists you if you can’t do a strict pull-up) and all 100 box jumps (20 inch box). My calves are still super sore today! This workout could be completed in our home as well, but maybe when my legs heal!
Now I just want to share a quick tip that I use. This may seem very simple, and if you do this already, that is great! But since my pre and post workout shakes usually contain bananas, I like to cut my bananas in half, bag them individually and freeze them. I find this makes my shakes creamier and even quicker to make, since all I have to do is take my ziploc out of the freezer and throw it in the blender! I hope this can be useful to you!
Since I am all about sharing (especially when it comes to health and fitness), I don’t want to hog these workouts I found all to myself. These workouts use little to no equipment and most can be done in your home. We tried one last night, and got our sweat on! Here is the link for the Home WOD’S. Be sure to check them out.
If you have any ideas of your own, please be sure to share them on here. Also, please feel welcome to share your progress, good and bad, because all journey’s aren’t always perfect. Sometimes you need a place where others can relate to you, and I like to feel like my blog is a safe place where we can share anything without anyone judging, just supporting one another!
